ClimatePartner

ClimatePartner

We work with ClimatePartner to determine our individual carbon footprint each year based on our consumption data. This is compensated with the financial support of various climate protection projects. Those projects vary from forest protection to sea protection or supporting clean energy.

Climate protection projects

Planting trees in Germany

We support the project planting trees in Germany. German forests are disappearing more and more. Be it through forest fires, triggered by climate change, or through drought and heat waves. The project supports reforestation and the conversion to so-called mixed forests. These consist of oaks and pines, for example. They are much more resistant to climate change and tolerate heat and drought better.

Forest Conservation Brazil

We support the forest conservation project, which protects the 72,843-hectare forest in Cujubim, Brazil. The aim is to improve the quality of life, offering social empowerment by training farmers in sustainable farming practices and forest management. There are some important biodiversity conservation goals, including the maintenance of forest coverage and the protection of several wildlife species. It’s been recognized by the UN’s FAO as being an exemplary case of sustainable forest management in Latin America and the Caribbean and is certified by the FSC, as a world reference in sustainable timber production. By preventing unplanned deforestation, about 7,457,910 tonnes of CO2 emissions will be avoided during the project lifetime.

Clean oceans project

We support the clean oceans project, implemented by Plastic Bank, which aims to stem the global tide of plastic. Local residents in Haiti, Indonesia, Brazil and the Philippines can exchange collected plastic waste for money, food, drinking water or even school fees. The collected plastic waste is then recycled and turned into so-called social plastic, which in turn is used as raw material for new products. As a result, less plastic ends up in the oceans, which has a positive effect on climate protection.

Wind Energy India

We support the wind energy project in the Nashik region in Maharashtra, India. Coal-based thermal power plants are one of the main sources of energy in India and also one of the largest CO2 emitters. This carbon offset project replaces parts of the fossil energy by feeding renewable wind energy into the regional NEWNE power grid, which supplies north, east, west and northeast India. The wind project generates approximately 12,530 megawatt hours of electricity per year and saves approximately 11,560 tons of CO2. With this and the creation of local jobs, the project contributes to sustainable development in India.
